As a Christian who’s pursuing acting as well as who’s profession is in the entertainment and media industry as a branding and social media strategist, I feel like there’s no greater place for Christians to step up than the media.
Although we’ve seen a few Christian based films in the past and have even more that will soon be released, I loved War Room for several reasons.
Did you notice that the actors in this film were all Christians? Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t know everyone in this film and I don’t know their background. But talking about our faith is not a fad. Ministry is not a fad nor is it part of a job description. It’s a lifestyle.
I absolutely love the fact that some of the actors in this film, like Priscilla Shirer, Beth Moore, and T.C. Stallings, are authors, speakers and truly are pursuing God relentlessly in their lives. Yes, this is a movie. But it creates a much more compelling impact when people see the lifestyle of those on the screen truly reflecting God’s light in their own personal lives and are pursuing God more than fame, money, or power. By being part of this film, they had no desire to bring attention to their name; instead, their goal was to give all glory to God.Their goal was to give all glory to God. Click To Tweet
They Are Real
The people that made this story come to life really do understand how difficult spiritual warfare is. They practice what they preach and understand what it’s like to pursue a relationship with God more than anything else in their life. This production alone was sure to have brought them some obstacles along the way. But regardless of the struggle they’ve faced, they put God first and continued on with what God had put into their hearts . They understand the struggles in spiritual warfare and when you watch the scenes, you come to realize they’re not simply actors tapping into the emotion for the sake of a movie; instead – they’re regular people who love God more than anything, understand the pull of the flesh despite their desire to follow the Spirit and want to show you that you don’t have to do it on your own because God loves you. They are real, relatable, and transparent.
Although it’s only been a year since I’ve decided to pursue acting, I’ve gotten to know that a lot of people in the industry will want their leads to have a fairly big name as actors so they may influence more people to watch their movie. But from an outsider looking in, it doesn’t seem like the producers gave in to this pressure which is humbling in itself. It’s easy to fall into the trap of looking at names when you’re praying for your movie to make it through.
Yes, some were speakers or authors and therefore at least had quite a bit of following. But from what I can tell, the producers were looking more at their heart and passion to serve God. This, again, reflects the heart of the producers which makes me love the movie even more because God looks at our hearts. Great example, don’t you think?God looks at our hearts. Click To Tweet
What does this tell me? This tells me that they continuously spend time in God’s Word, with His people, so that they can put complete trust in God and God alone to move through this production. Yes, I’m sure they did their best to plan what they can but they left the rest to God and in return gave all glory back to Him. Not lifting their own name.
It Addressed A Struggle
The producers, Stephen and Alex Kendrick from The KendrickBros, did an amazing job addressing one of the struggles of our nation – the struggles of marriage – and used it to apply great biblical truth. They showed that it needs to be protected rather than taken for granted. With this current generation, it’s evident that careers have become more important than relationships to most. Most of us are willing to do anything and everything to get to the top – whether that means working extremely long hours that you don’t spend time with your family or elbowing your way to the top and compromising your morals. This movie showed that it is a real temptation that needs to be acknowledged so we can pray for the strength to not fall into these traps when they come.
They showed how powerful prayer is and how developing our relationship with God actually helps us create healthier relationships with our loved ones. It invites God to work in and through our situation while changing hearts, including ours. It’s an amazing reminder that battles need to be fought on our knees with people who will pray for us and with us. Too often, we want to keep our battles to ourselves, but praying with people who you know are for you can do wonders. After all, even Moses needed Aaron’s help during a heated battle.
Exodus 17: 11-13
As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.
Overall, War Room was a great example of the body of Christ coming together and using the different gifts He’s given each person who was involved to edify the church.
If you haven’t seen this movie, I want to encourage you to do so – married or single, man or woman. There are so many great lessons in this movie that I wasn’t able to address, but trying to do so wouldn’t even do this production justice. Spiritual warfare is real, and it’s not with the people you love but with spiritual forces of evil (Ephesians 6:12).

In case you were wondering, I’m not affiliated with any of them. But I am all for giving God glory therefore, I we’re in the same team.
