Genesis 3:1-3 NIV
Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”
Have you ever felt like God has spoken to you, given you a command or guided you in a specific direction but then doubt starts to creep in? I know I have. I still go through it, actually.
Here’s what happens. You’re called, and you start to feel God prompting you towards a direction. You’re called, and you start to feel God prompting you towards a direction. Click To Tweet
You start following that prompting but the manifestation of what you felt like God was pushing you towards takes a while to show itself right in front of your eyes. Or what you’re currently going through doesn’t make sense and you’re not sure how it will lead to what God has spoken in your heart.
So then doubt starts to creep in.
Guys, don’t bite into that! If God has given you a command or is leading you to something but you’re not seeing it in your eyes just yet, that doesn’t mean that you didn’t hear from Him. It doesn’t mean that God’s not at work in your situation. In fact, God has already done the very thing He’s promised you – we just don’t see the whole picture just yet.God has already done the very thing He’s promised you - we just don’t see the whole picture just… Click To Tweet
It’s during these times that the enemy sees you’re getting tired, weary or you’re starting to get impatient that he starts to seep doubt into your thoughts.
In Genesis, we see one of the first evidences of the enemy questioning Eve. The moment he questions Eve, she bites into and starts wondering, “Hm, what DID God say? Did He REALLY say that?” Then guess what, she starts rewording what God said and next thing you know, she bites into the temptation of putting things into her own hands because she didn’t trust God’s word.
If we’re not careful, this very same concept can happen to us.
If we’re not careful the enemy will make us question the instruction and command God specifically gave us – which was ultimately for our good, mind you.
This is one of the enemy’s tactics because if he can make you question your calling, if he can make you doubt whether this is what God wants you to do because you start looking at what other people are doing or you start looking at what is in front of you rather than keeping your eyes on God, then guess what? You just might veer off from where you have the most impact. By taking you off course, he takes you away from the very place that God’s greatness will shine the brightest through you.
When we take that bait from the enemy, we start to act on our own behalf. Because let’s be real, if we really trusted God, we would be more patient, right? Then this makes us perform subpar to what God had actually intended! You are called to greatness, but that greatness is only with and through God.You are called to greatness, but that greatness is only with and through God. Click To Tweet
So here’s the thing. Prepare for those moments that you might start feeling doubt. Because it will happen. That’s not a question. What matters isn’t that we never experience doubt. What matters is that we don’t bite into it and forget what God has said.
Prepare for it by constantly praying, keeping yourself in God’s word, and even writing out and putting on your wall the very verses that God spoke to you with. Keep it in your office, keep it as your laptop wallpaper, keep it in front of you while you’re working!
Because when you’re hard at work pursuing the very thing God has called you to do, when you run into people online or clients that make you feel inadequate, when you start to compare yourself to other influencers in your niche, you need to remember RIGHT AWAY that what God has called you to is specific to YOU and to stop comparing yourself right away! Don’t even entertain it. Don’t accept it.
Read God’s Truth, speak it, and profess it.
Hold on to your convictions and don’t let yourself settle for less than what God has intended for you.Hold on to your convictions and don’t let yourself settle for less than what God has intended for… Click To Tweet
Just a little bonus:
I was watching one of Michelle Myers’s scopes a while back, and one of the things that really stuck with me is how important it is to have a prayer team. If you’re pursuing something that God called you to do, I can promise you it will not be easy. Now I’m not going to try and make this super professional or anything because it doesn’t have to be, but please please please find a few people that you can talk to and trust to really pray for you. As in fervently and consistently pray for you. People that you can open up to, share things with, and people who will make it a point to spend time to intercede for you. I’ve tried to do it on my own before, and man, it is EXTREMELY hard. It drains you. So please, if you don’t know who to run to for prayers with something you’re going through right now and with where God is directing you to, feel free to shoot me an email and reach out. We can team up and pray for each other.
